Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City news for Wednesday, July 27.
Webb departs
Lewis Webb has joined Aberystwyth Town on loan.
The Swansea goalkeeper spent the opening half of the year with Irish side Shelbourne but was recalled ahead of his parent club's return to pre-season, and he is now set to be with the Cymru Premier outfit until January.
The Wales Under-21s international is yet to make a senior appearance for the Swans and has two years left to run on his contract with the club. Swansea also hold the option to extend that deal by an additional 12 months.
Martin reluctant to dip further into loan market
Russell Martin admits Swansea City are reluctant to utilise the loan market this summer unless they find players of sufficient quality to improve the squad. Rhys Williams, Finley Burns, Cyrus Christie, Hannes Wolf and Ethan Laird all joined the club on temporary deals last season, although Matty Sorinola is the only loan player Swansea have in their ranks at present.
The Swans attempted to sign Sorinola on a permanent deal from Union SG, although the Belgian outfit were only willing to sanction a loan exit for the versatile wing-back. Martin has highlighted Flynn Downes as an example of how vital it is that Swansea look to create assets given their financial situation.
"I think Matty would have ideally been a permanent for us," revealed Martin. "We tried to explore that option, but Union, of course, they still think he has real potential. They wanted him to stay this year but Matty insisted he wanted to come and play for us.
"I think the ownership, us as a group of coaching staff, Josh [Marsh] and Julian [Winter] will try to avoid loans unless they're going to come in and really impact the team because we want as many of our own assets as possible.
"The Flynn Downes one is the model of the club. We have a team full of assets. They can't all be assets, they can't all be 22 and we sell them off for a lot of money every summer.
"We need to finish as high as possible and try to get to the Premier League as us. I don't know how long it's going to take. We'll only get a loan if it's something we really need and someone who can really make a difference to our squad."
Martin: 'Everyone's pulling together'
Russell Martin says he is reluctant to set any targets for his Swansea City side, but says the level of togetherness on and off the pitch will serve them well this season.
The Swans are poised to kick off their Championship campaign with a trip to Rotherham United on Saturday, with Martin preparing for a second full season at the helm.
“I think everyone is in a better place than we were 12 months ago, and the focus now is on having a good performance at Rotherham and making sure it is the sort of game we want it to be,” he said.
“That goes for myself and the staff, too. There is a brilliant connection and bond throughout the club at the moment.
“That goes between all the staff, on the football side and throughout the club, and the players and the supporters, who are absolutely fantastic in how they back us. It feels like everyone is pulling in the same direction, which is so important. We have added a few members of staff that will really help us, and we have added some players who will really help us.
“It is exciting, it always is when the season is about to start. We don’t know where we are going to finish, I have no expectation around that. We will take it game by game. I know that is the oldest cliché in football, but it is pointless looking further ahead than that. We will give it everything we have got, and see where that takes us.”
