Swansea City transfer news as Cullen comes into Sunderland and Middlesbrough 'conversation' plus pundit's glowing assessment

Your Swansea City headlines on Wednesday, April 26.

Cullen comes into Boro & Sunderland 'conversation'

Carlton Palmer believes Liam Cullen fits the bill of players Sunderland and Middlesbrough would be looking to sign in the summer.

The Swansea City striker was recently linked with the Championship duo while Celtic were also credited with showing an interest in the 24-year-old.

And pundit Palmer believes Cullen - who took his tally of goals to nine for the season with his header in the 3-0 win at Norwich City on Saturday - will be in the conversation when Boro and Sunderland look to bolster their squads in the upcoming transfer window.

"Sunderland have struggled for goals at times this season," Palmer told Football League World. "The same applies as what I said about Middlesbrough signing him.

“Sunderland who are not blessed with great finances, players who are available on a free or cost very little of course will be interesting to them.

"So Liam comes into that frame, he's having a rich vein of form with Swansea at the moment, so he comes into that conversation.”

Pundit's glowing assessment of Swans

Iwan Roberts believes Swansea City are playing with more confidence at present than they have done in any other period of Russell Martin's tenure to date.

The Swans appeared destined to finish in the bottom half of the table after a prolonged run of poor results following the 2-0 triumph over Cardiff City in October.

However, they still harbour faint hopes of reaching the top six having won six of their last seven matches ahead of their final two games of the campaign against Hull City and West Brom.

And former Wales striker Roberts lavished praise on the Swans for the way they continued their resurgence by cruising to victory at Norwich City last time out.

"You were outstanding. The third goal was a thing of beauty," Roberts said on EJFOF.

"It was a good afternoon for you, I thought you were absolutely magnificent. 19 points from 21 available, two games to go.

"Hull away at the weekend, they've won five of their last eight home games, but, at the minute, you're absolutely flying high. I don't think I've ever seen you play with such confidence and momentum as what I saw on Saturday.

"The movement, I have no idea what formation you were playing. I don't mean that in a negative way, Norwich couldn't get anywhere near you, it was absolutely brilliant."

Stadium becomes home

Kai Ludvigsen says Swansea City's Under-21s relish playing at the Swansea.com Stadium having secured their fourth successive win at the home of the first team this week.

Anthony Wright's men defeated Professional Development League northern section champions Sheffield United 4-1 on Monday afternoon.

It was the Under-21 side's fourth triumph in as many matches at the Swansea.com Stadium this season, with the young guns already beating the likes of Queens Park Rangers, Wigan Athletic and Hull City at the senior side's home.

“The stadium just might be our place to play," the defender told the club website. "It’s our home stadium and we always want to step up to the occasion as we don’t always get to play there.

“We needed this win, and especially against this tough side who have just won their league, and hopefully, with three games left, we can carry this momentum on.

“We’d love to get three wins from three. If we’re putting in good performances against sides like that, we can go up against anyone."
