Swansea City transfer headlines as Trust makes summer prediction and former Swans star motivated by play-off pain

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City headlines for Monday, May 2.

Trust release statement after accounts release

The Swansea City Supporters Trust has suggested that further player sales could be on the cards this summer as the club looks to 'balance the books', following the release of City's latest accounts.

The Swans revealed a pre-tax loss of £4.6m to July 2021 this week, in an announcement that laid bare the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The last few transfer windows have already seen the club reshape their playing squad to try and offset the effects of relegation from the Premier League, with the sale of Joe Rodon among the contributory factors in these latest accounts, and there's a feeling that the Swans could look to make similar moves in this window.

In a statement analysing the results, the Trust said : "The figures lay bare the challenges that the club and others in the Championship face in this regard, especially those relegated from the Premier League and at the conclusion of their parachute payment period.

"A part of the response has seen a continued re-shaping of the playing squad, with several high-earners departing last summer – this undoubtedly helped to put the club on a more even keel, and we expect to see further changes this summer as Russell Martin continues to shape the squad to better deliver the style of football that we now play.

"The Trust recognises that supporters will look on with concern about the figures disclosed and what it means for the club in the immediate and long-term; it is likely that further player trading will occur this summer to help balance the books, and that further investment may be required at points to bridge gaps in the future."

Swans pain motivating Lowe

Bournemouth striker Jamal Lowe says defeat in the play-off final with Swansea last season is giving him the 'fire' to go one better with the Cherries this term.

Lowe made 52 appearances for the Swans last season, and netted 14 goals for Steve Cooper's side, but was powerless to prevent a 2-0 defeat in the final against Brentford at Wembley. The Jamaica international left south Wales for the English south coast over the summer in a £1.5m move, and has racked up seven goals in 36 appearances.

And he's clearly hungry to secure a place in the top flight this time around. He told the Daily Echo : "It was probably one of the most devastating things that’s happened to me on a football pitch, getting so close, 90 minutes away from Premier League football and not making it.

"That’s definitely given me the fire to push on and Bournemouth as well, you can’t forget, got to the semi-finals last season and that fire as well.

"Everyone has got the same fire to do one better this year."

Swans team up with Swansea Centre for Deaf People

Swansea have teamed up with the Swansea Centre for Deaf People to celebrate Deaf Awareness Week.

Talina Jones, secretary for the board of management for Swansea Centre for Deaf People, travelled to the training ground at Fairwood to teach members of the squad a few football terms and phrases in British Sign Language (BSL).

Videos of words and phrases will be released throughout the week, and the club have also confirmed that the matchday social media output for their final fixture of the season against Queens Park Rangers will include football-relevant examples of BSL.

The club’s disability access officer Catherine Thomas said: “We first partnered with the Centre for Deaf People in 2020, but the pandemic put a hold on a lot of the things we had planned. We’re delighted to be in a position where we can pick this partnership up once again and celebrate Deaf awareness week with our Deaf supporters and people across the city.

“We’re looking forward to doing even more next season.”
