Swansea City's keep, sell or loan arguments as several stars face summer transfer questions

Swansea City face, as ever, a big summer in terms of their recruitment.

Both ins and outs will have to be intensely scrutinised as belts are tightened across the Championship. Supporters are accustomed to losing a big-name player most summers, with sales so important to the business model in SA1.

Joel Piroe is the obvious name this time around, with Nathan Wood also receiving admiring glances, but head coach Russell Martin believes the former PSV man in no rush to leave the club.

Whatever happens with the Dutchman, Swansea's squad is likely to be given a freshen up.

Here we look at the keep, sell or loan debate surrounding Martin's first-team set-up.

Andy Fisher

Has had some up and down moments this season filling in for Steven Benda but has proven to be a decent option for Martin.

Verdict: Keep

Steven Benda

Was out of the side then worked his way back in and was thriving before injury struck. Likely to be first choice when he regains fitness.

Verdict: Keep

Lewis Webb

Always tricky knowing what to do best with back-up keepers but one suspects Webb, 21, will be kept around.

Verdict: Keep

Andreas Sondergaard

Signed a short-term deal until the end of the season as injury cover.

Verdict: Out of contract

Ryan Manning

Been one of Swansea’s stars of the season. Out of contract but supporters will hope one last round of talks might persuade him to stay.

Verdict: Keep

Ben Cabango

Another solid season for the centre-back, forming a good partnership with Nathan Wood.

Verdict: Keep

Harry Darling

A campaign of adjustment for the former MK Dons man, playing a fair bit at right-back. However, he’s done well whenever called upon.

Verdict: Keep

Nathanael Ogbeta

Just hasn’t worked out for the left-sided defender. Spent second half of season with Peterborough United.

Verdict: Sell

Brandon Cooper

Interesting one. Was with Forest Green Rovers last term and game-time at his age is vital for progression.

Verdict: Loan to an established League One club, perhaps?

Joel Latibeaudiere

Like Manning, the utility man is out of contract. Martin wants him to stay and who are we to argue.

Verdict: Keep

Nathan Wood

The standout signing of Swansea’s season. Been an absolute rock at the heart of defence. Needs a new deal, with Arsenal and Tottenham reportedly keeping tabs.

Verdict: Keep

Kyle Naughton

Veteran defender is another whose deal is expiring, but the head coach values his experience and wants to keep him in SA1.

Verdict: Keep

Matty Sorinola

Loan man’s stay in south Wales is now over but he is another who the manager has spoken warmly of.

Verdict: Undecided

Jay Fulton

Stunning turnaround for the Scotsman. Looked to have been close to the exit door a year ago, now players’ player of the year. Brilliant.

Verdict: Keep

Joe Allen

A frustrating season for Allen due to injury but everyone knows what he brings, on and off the field.

Verdict: Keep

Matt Grimes

The skipper leads by example and is the perfect Russell Martin player.

Verdict: Keep

Olivier Ntcham

Since he’s found form and fitness, the Cameroon international looks like a different player. When on song he oozes class.

Verdict: Keep

Luke Cundle

The Wolves man looks a player and slotted it very well in this Swansea side. Martin wants talks with the Molineux club about another loan stint for the midfielder.

Verdict: Another loan

Liam Walsh

It’s been great to see the midfielder put his injury problems behind him, despite him missing the last few games of the season with a knock. A decent turnaround.

Verdict: Keep

Ollie Cooper

One of the gems in Swansea’s crown, for the present and future.

Verdict: Keep

Ben Lloyd

Youngster has just penned a new deal with Swansea. Still only 18, so Martin may want to keep him around to oversee his development.

Verdict: Keep

Daniel Williams

Could a loan down the English football pyramid be beneficial for all parties, perhaps?

Verdict: Loan

Cameron Congreve

Has enjoyed his tastes of first-team football and depending on this summer’s recruitment would be a handy impact player to have in the squad.

Verdict: Keep

Jamie Paterson

Has put difficult periods behind him and is back firing again and in the manager’s plans.

Verdict: Keep

Joel Piroe

Two seasons, 40-odd goals, all for the bargain price of £1million. Will surely be on many clubs’ shopping lists this summer though.

Verdict: They’ll want to keep him, but if the price is right...

Morgan Whittaker

A strange season for the young attacker. Pulled back from Plymouth but hasn’t played much. Time to cash in?

Verdict: Sell

Liam Cullen

A few transfer rumours have done the rounds regarding his future but he should be kept, especially if Piroe were to leave.

Verdict: Keep

Kyle Joseph

Seems like Oxford United want him back for next season. Unlikely to break into the first team in SA1 anytime soon.

Verdict: Loan
