Swansea City player ratings as summer signing proves his worth at Rotherham United but striker struggles

Swansea City players had varying fortunes in the 1-1 draw Championship opener at Rotherham United on Saturday.

Here's how the Swans rated:

ANDY FISHER 8

Little he could do about Chiedozie Ogbene's opener and did brilliantly to palm away the Republic of Ireland international's spectacular effort soon after. Really good stops to deny Ogbene, Georgie Kelly and Dan Barlaser in the second half.

NATHAN WOOD 7

Plenty of good play from the summer signing, and headed wide from a good position in the first-half. Looked confident and composed on the ball, though.

KYLE NAUGHTON 7

Made a number of important clearances and was generally composed in possession, aside from one scary moment in the first half and was unfortunate to head towards his own goal for Rotherham's opener.

HARRY DARLING - star man 8

The summer signing was pivotal in his own box, winning numerous aerial duels to ease the threat on Fisher's goal. And speaking of goals, the defender unleashed a pile-driver from 25 yards to bag his first goal for the Swans. Fine debut.

JOEL LATIBEAUDIERE 7

Got forward well and played his part in numerous attacks. Spurned a decent chance in the second half from a header but was very accurate in possession. An encouraging display.

JAY FULTON 7

Very solid in the middle of the park on his return to competitive action for Swansea. Some gritty challenges to help keep the visitors in control.

MATT GRIMES 7

The captain made numerous key passes and showed how pivotal he is in the centre of the park, particularly following the sale of Flynn Downes to West Ham.

MATTY SORINOLA 6

Showed a few glimpses of his talents, but a few moments of frustration too. Cheaply cautioned in the second half and was withdrawn not too long after.

JOEL PIROE 7

Looked the most likely to score in the first half and got into plenty of promising positions. Some wonderful moments after the restart, not least in the build-up to creating a glorious chance for Michael Obafemi. Denied by Viktor Johansson in the second half too.

JAMIE PATERSON 7

The 30-year-old was very lively in attacking areas and was at the heart of Swansea's best play in the final third. Good chance to score in the second half but was well denied by Johansson before being withdraw.

MICHAEL OBAFEMI 6

Didn't get much in the way of chances until spurning a sitter in the second half. A few rusty touches in what was a frustrating display for the forward.

Subs

Olivier Ntcham (for Paterson) - A couple of decent moments as Swansea pushed for a winner, but didn't get an opportunity to really have the killer impact. 6

Ryan Manning (for Sorinola) - Got forward well after coming on against his former club and almost had a chance to win it at the death before being tackled. 6
