Swans hit with FA charge after Preston brawl
Swansea City have been slapped with an official FA charge for their part in the recent brawl at home to Preston North End.
Players and members of staff from both teams were involved in the melee, which erupted in the latter stages of a 4-2 win for the hosts at the Swansea.com Stadium.
The incident saw Joe Allen and Preston boss Ryan Lowe sent off, and officials have now decided to formally charge both clubs.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the FA said: "Swansea City AFC and Preston North End FC have been charged following their EFL Championship game on Wednesday 19 April.
"It is alleged that both clubs failed to ensure that their players and/or bench occupants conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative and/or violent behaviour during the 89th minute.
"Preston North End FC manager Ryan Lowe and sports therapist Colin Ashcroft have been charged for alleged improper and/or violent behaviour at that time too.
"Swansea City AFC, Preston North End FC, Ryan Lowe and Colin Ashcroft all have until Thursday 27 April to provide their respective response."
Thomas with pick of the goals as young Swans cruise to victory
Swansea City's Under-21s side returned to winning ways in emphatic circumstances by crushing Sheffield United 4-1 in the Professional Development League on Monday.
After losing their last two outings, the Swans took the lead through a Levis Pitan own goal, before Jili Bayubu levelled for the Blades.
Josh Thomas then won and scored a penalty to put the Swans back in front before the break, before firing home a low strike in the closing stages.
However, the best was yet to come, as substitute Joe Thomas rounded off a sublime team move that contained an impressive 27 completed passes.
It was a win that thoroughly impressed coach Anthony Wright, who said afterwards: “I’m just so pleased with the overall performance. The boys showed so much courage to get on the ball. Their movement and their discipline to work certain areas, to play out under a high press, was a real joy to watch.
“I’ve really enjoyed that performance today, and it was topped off with four goals, which I know we've got in us.
“The boys are pleased, and with full respect to Sheffield United, they’ve won the north league and they’re a very good side, and we knew that going into the game today.
“We knew that our performance had to be of a high level to get anything out of the game, and the boys accepted that challenge that we set them.
“I’m just over the moon with the whole performance today. I think our game management just after half-time was tremendous. It showed how much the players are really coming on individually and collectively.
“We spoke last week after Barnsley that we needed a little bit more control of the game, which I think we did incredibly well with in the second period."
Shelvey sent home by Cooper following row
Jonjo Shelvey was reportedly sent home last weekend following a row with Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper.
According to The Sun, Cooper's patience snapped after Shelvey reacted angrily to being named on the bench for Saturday's trip to former club Liverpool.
A source is believed to have told the newspaper that the 31-year-old "threw his toys out of the pram" when he found out he was on the bench for the second straight week, and confronted Cooper after a team meeting.
It's believed Shelvey's disappointment surfaced once again on the training pitch, with Cooper then making the decision to axe the midfielder altogether for the trip to Merseyside.
The same publication claims Shelvey is popular with many of his team-mates, but it's claimed the majority of Forest's squad backed Cooper's decision to remove the former Newcastle United star from his squad.
