Swansea City headlines as Martin explains plan for Burns, boss' tense press conference and Michu takes on new role at 'secret meeting'

Here's your round-up of all the latest Swansea City headlines for Monday, February 14.

Martin hopes there's more to come from Fin

Russell Martin says Manchester City loanee Finley Burns has all the attributes to become a Swansea City hit, following the youngster's accomplished debut against Bristol City on Sunday.

The 18-year-old, who joined towards the end of the January window, was one of the better performers during the 3-1 win over the Robins, and showed some promising signs of what might be to come.

Martin was clearly impressed with what he saw, and believes the Swans have a genuinely promising talent on their hands.

“I thought he was great. I thought he showed what is going to come," Martin said when asked about the teenager.

“I was really pleased with Fin. He has come in and really impressed everyone and I think for a debut in this league, his mentality, his quality, his willingness to defend and compete was pleasing.

“We have got a really exciting prospect on our hands and now it is up to us to develop him and make sure he understands every detail.

“We are really, really happy with him and hopefully today will give him a springboard to really kick on from.”

After his impressive start to life in south Wales, Burns himself clearly has his eye on earning a regular first team place over the coming weeks.

“I have felt welcomed here and it was a brilliant feeling to make my debut," he said.

“The aim is to try and earn a regular place in the first team, there were a few mistakes in my game that I know I need to learn from and correct for the future to get better.

“I just want to get as many games under my belt and get the team moving in the right direction.”

Pearson fumes during tense press conference

Furious Bristol City boss Nigel Pearson says he's run out of patience with certain members of his side following their defeat at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The Robins boss believes his team lacked the desire to take anything on from the hosts, who came from behind to win 3-1.

Failing to even sit down during his post-match duties, Pearson fumed: "When people say ‘have you worked at that?’ I say listen, what you can’t do is you can’t give players desire.

"So we might have to make changes because people like me lose my job through results. What I’m not having is, I’m not having players who cop-out.

"We’ve been in a winning position, we’ve had loads of possession, nine attempts in the first half, five or six in the second as an away side. We get in front and concede three crap goals.

"We might have to make changes. Maybe we’ve got players in our squad at the moment that have got until now and the end of the season to prove whether they’re good enough to be here next year whether I’m the manager or anybody else.

"This football club has had too long putting up with players that are just going through the motions at times."

When questioned on whether he felt it was the same individuals making the same errors, Pearson snapped: "You watched the game. You watched the game, didn’t you? You watched it one week, watched it the next. Was it the same?

"I’m not protecting players on a day like today when we should get something out of the game at least. Congratulations to them (Swansea)."

Michu helps Haaland's future take potential new twist

Former Swansea hero Michu may well have played a role in helping Erling Haaland move to Real Madrid this summer.

According to Marca, German brand Adidas are keen on securing a deal to represent the Norwegian striker, whose contract with Nike looks set to end in January.

Reports suggest a secret meeting took place at the German company's headquarters, and was attended by Haaland, his father, Zinedine Zidane and Michu.

Should the 21-year-old sign a contract with Adidas, it could reportedly make a move to Madrid more straightforward, due to the German brand's relationship with the club.

Adidas is believed to already represent a number of the club's players, although Real are by no means the only club to have taken an interest in the Norwegian.

Indeed, Manchester City, Manchester United, Barcelona and Paris St Germain have all been mentioned as possible suitors in recent weeks.

Michu was the young Haaland's footballing idol growing up.
