Swansea City complete double swoop as goalkeeper sends Arsenal classy message after exit

Swansea City have completed the signings of goalkeepers Remy Mitchell and Archie Matthews.

Mitchell was released by Arsenal following the expiration of his contract, and the Swans agreed a deal to sign the goalkeeper on a free transfer. And it has been confirmed that the shot stopper has put pen to paper on a two-year deal in south Wales with the option for an additional 12 months.

Mitchell will go straight into the Swans' Under-21 side, joining fellow summer captures Wasiri Williams and Ben Blythe in doing so.

Following his exit from the Emirates Stadium, Mitchell sent the Gunners faithful a classy message on social media. "After 10 years, my time at Arsenal is up," he wrote on Instagram.

"It’s given me some of the best moments of my life so far and helped me become the person I am today. I’d also like to thank everyone who has helped me get to the stage I am at now, all the staff and the players who I’ve ever worked and played with by making every moment memorable.

"This club will always hold a special place in my heart as an ex player and as a massive fan, thank you @Arsenal. Can’t wait to go onto bigger and better things next season."

Mitchell is yet to play any senior football but was a key figure for Arsenal's youth side in the Under-18s Premier League. He has also featured for the Gunners in the FA Youth Cup.

It comes after Swansea confirmed the capture of Archie Matthews.

The 20-year-old was recently released by Birmingham City and is set to link-up with the Swans' Under-21s. He has also signed a two-year deal with Swansea, and the club hold the option to extend his contract by 12 months.
