Swansea City boss Russell Martin sent blunt message by former team-mate over Rangers' Morgan Whittaker transfer saga

Charlie Adam has urged Russell Martin to keep details on Morgan Whittaker's future "in-house" amid transfer interest from Rangers.

Whittaker returned to Swansea City earlier this month following a successful loan spell with Plymouth Argyle.

He has attracted transfer interest from a number of clubs, with Rangers having a bid for the 22-year-old turned down by the Swans.

Whittaker was due to be included in Swansea's matchday squad against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, although he asked the head coach not to be involved after stating he was not in the right frame of mind to feature in west London.

An appearance against Neil Critchley's side would have ended the possibility of Whittaker joining Rangers this month, although the player could now potentially end up at Rangers given that he has not played for Swansea this season.

But former Liverpool and Blackpool star Adam - who played for Scotland alongside Martin - says the Swans need to keep certain matters on Whittaker's situation private.

“Swansea are never going to be happy with the bids for Morgan Whittaker because you never go in with your highest transfer offer first," told Grosvenor Sport.

"Russell Martin doesn't need to play it out in the media, he should keep it all in-house and just say that you're not happy with it.

“Whittaker is a good player who is on the radar of a lot of clubs. He's had a lot of good loans and done really well at Plymouth.

"Michael Beale only wants to add players who will affect the first XI and Morgan will definitely add something to the team.”

Whittaker netted nine times and registered seven assists during the first-half of the season with Plymouth.

The versatile attacker joined Swansea from Derby County for around £700,000 in January 2021.
