Newcastle United are leaving no stone unturned when it comes to this summer's transfer window as "phase two" of the club's Saudi-backed takeover starts to get interesting.
Unlike previous summers, the Magpies already had one transfer ready to go for June in the shape of Matt Targett's £15million move from Aston Villa. Chronicle Live brought you the scoop that Toon chiefs were delighted with Targett on March 8 with a deal already in place for the popular full-back.
Since then Newcastle's other important off the field addition was Dan Ashworth with Amanda Staveley and co pushing through a compensation package to get the sporting director behind his desk in time for the start of the summer trading period. The early part of the window has resulted in Ashworth cranking up the club's chase for Sven Botman and Hugo Ekitike with Ashworth in constant dialogue with their agents as well as Lille and Reims over in France.
Ideally, United are looking to sign at least four more new senior players but depending on how trading develops at the club's Benton base there is scope for potentially more new faces. And both outgoing business and loans are also set to be big stories on Tyneside.
Midfielder Isaac Hayden has already departed Tyneside to join Norwich City on loan but question marks still remain above players such as Ciaran Clark, Federico Fernandez, Dwight Gayle and Freddie Woodman. And the same can be said on possible loan deals for Matty Longstaff, Elliot Anderson and reserve team hotshot Dylan Stephenson.
