Sutton-in-Ashfield charity shop appeals for donations after break in

A charity shop in Sutton-in-Ashfield is appealing for urgent donations after thieves targeted the Nottinghamshire PDSA shop, which raises vital funds for sick and injured pets.

Thieves have targeted Sutton-in-Ashfield PDSA shop causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage. The charity shop is now appealing for donations which raises funds for sick and injured pets.

As well as the damage, thieves stole much-need stock from the store. The staff at the shop are now urging those in the area for support which will help them get back on their feet after the robbery.

Neil Squire, Retail Manager at PDSA, said: “Our shop manager arrived to open up the shop to find the glass door smashed – we couldn’t believe what had happened. The shop was a mess and lots of our much-needed stock has been taken in the raid.”

Mr Squire added: “Being unable to open the shop means that not only have we lost donations, we’ve also missed out on income that would have helped fund our vital veterinary services to care for poorly pets and we had to pay to repair all the damage.

The damage caused to the PDSA shop meant it was forced to close while police investigated and damages could be repaired.

“We’re appealing to our local community to show their support by bringing in their pre-loved items. We need all types of donations including clothing, accessories, homeware, DVDs, books, toys and games.”

The store is now open from Monday to Saturday, and donations can be dropped off at the shop between 9am to 5pm.

PDSA carries out a vital service throughout the country. A new Pet Wellbeing Centre is currently under construction in Nottingham, to support eligible pets and their owners across the region.

The new hospital is due to open this summer, and will replace PDSA’s current premises, which has now reached breaking point.

PDSA receives no government funding towards running its vital veterinary services, and is supported by the generosity of the pet-loving public who donate to make sure we can be there for a pet when they need us most.

Sutton-In-Ashfield PDSA Charity Shop can be found in the town centre on Low Street.
