Suspects arrested in connection with Elle Edwards murder remain in custody

A man and woman arrested in connection with the murder of Elle Edwards remain in police custody.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson confirmed to the ECHO this morning, Wednesday, December 28 that the pair remained in police custody following their arrests. Elle Edwards was gunned down at the Lighthouse pub in Wallasey Village just before midnight on Christmas Eve.

The 26-year-old was struck in the head in front of horrified friends and onlookers when a gunman opened fire outside the front entrance of the pub. She had been celebrating her sister's return home from Dubai for Christmas with friends. Merseyside Police do not believe her to be the target of the shooting.

Four men were also injured in the shooting, including a 28-year-old man from Beechwood, Wirral. The man is no longer in critical condition but is continuing to receive medical treatment.

A 22-year-old man also suffered an injury to his legs, a 24-year-old man sustained an injury to his hand and a 33-year-old man suffered an injury to his wrist. Police said the attacker drove off in a dark car believed to be an A-Class Mercedes, driven by a male driver.

Two people were arrested on Boxing Day in connection with the beautician's murder. A 30-year-old man from Tranmere was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. And a 19-year-old woman from Rock Ferry was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

The two suspects were taken into police custody - and a spokesperson for the force has now confirmed they both are still being held while they remain to be questioned. Speaking at the time of arrest, Detective Superintendent Sue Coombs from Major Crime Investigations said: "We have made two arrests in connection with this cold-blooded shooting.

"Elle’s family are still having to come to terms with her tragic loss, and our specially trained family liaison officers are supporting them. We will not rest until we bring those responsible to justice and I would appeal to anyone who has information to contact us. I would urge people who were in the Lighthouse at the time of the incident, or anyone who has mobile or CCTV footage of what happened to contact us as a matter of urgency as they may have information which is vital to our investigation.

"We are also appealing to motorists and residents in the area, who may have captured anything on Dashcam or CCTV to contact us and every bit of evidence is crucial to the investigation."

Chief Constable Serena Kennedy yesterday vowed her officers would be "relentless" in bringing those responsible for Elle's murder to justice. Chief Constable Kennedy called Elle's death a "callous and cold-blooded murder" - and branded her killers as "pathetic cowards" who "deserve to see every Christmas from behind bars".

Flowers, gifts and messages of love and support continue to be laid outside the pub by family and friends. Elle's heartbroken dad Tim Edwards left a bouquet with an emotional card when visiting the scene on Boxing Day. The card Mr Edwards left at the scene read: "To my beautiful Elle, you are the light of my life. You will never be gone, Mum and Dad xxxx."
