Suspect named after more than £5,000 of damage to train crossing

A man has been named after being accused of causing more than £5,000 worth of damage to a Merseyside train crossing.

William Boswarva has been charged with driving into a train station barrier at Maghull.

The 27-year-old, from Valley Road, Crosby, is set to appear in court this morning charged with the criminal damage and dangerous driving.

He is also charged with obstructing an engine or carriage using the railway by an unlawful act.

Police say the incident, that happened on February 18, caused delays across the Merseyrail network.

Officers said that such damage to the barrier and railway line could have led to serious injuries to travellers.

A spokesperson for Sefton Police posted to Facebook: "Yesterday, South Sefton Community Team arrested a 27-year-old male in relation to an incident in Maghull on the 18th February where Maghull Train Station barriers were damaged.

"This was after a vehicle has driven through the train station barriers causing significant damage, delays across the rail network and could have caused serious injury to rail users.

"William Boswarva, 27, from Valley Road, Crosby has been charged with Criminal Damage (over £5000), Dangerous Driving, and Obstruct a engine/carriage using the Railway by an Unlawful Act. He has been denied bail.

"Boswarva will appear before Wirral Magistrates this morning."
