Susanna Reid forced to check Ofcom rules live on Good Morning Britain as Ed Balls triggered into 'swearing'

Susanna Reid jokingly said she was going to check the golden rule book when it comes to live, pre-watershed broadcasting as she returned to Good Morning Britain on Tuesday (May 9) alongside Ed Balls.

The presenter started this week's stint on the show a day later than usual due to the bank holiday where she was replaced by Kate Garraway who was also joined by the former Labour MP. It comes after Susanna presented a special episode of the ITV news programme on Saturday (May 6) alongside Ben Shephard in the build-up to the King's Coronation.

But back to the latest show and the topic was still on royal matters as Susanna and Ed fronted a debate about whether the new monarchy is 'out of touch' following the release of the first official portraits of King Charles III and Queen Camilla which were taken back at Buckingham Palace after they were crowned in a traditional ceremony in Westminster Abbey.

The debate between Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu, who claimed the Royal family was an outdated concept, and Richard Fitzwilliams, who disagreed, soon heated up and the pair were left shouting over each other. It was at that point that the show's hosts had to get involved.

"I have to bring it to an end," Susanna declared as she raised her hands as if to prise the pair apart. Ed joked he was traumatised as it triggered memories of his time in the House of Commons and quoted Dr Shola when Susanna asked if he was being serious as he replied: "The frig I am."

Susanna warned her co-host after the comment as she joked: "Steady. I'm going to double check the Ofcom for that one." It came after Dr Shola was in disbelief when Ed asked if she swore her allegiance to the King to which she said: "Hell to the frig no."
