Susanna Reid fights back tears on Good Morning Britain amid heartbreaking statement

Susanna Reid was left fighting back tears on Good Morning Britain as she heard the latest news coming out of Nottingham. The presenter was back fronting the show with Richard Madeley in the studio when they joined reporter Richard Gaisford in the city.

It comes after a major incident was declared in Nottingham city centre on Tuesday (June 13) after three people were killed and three injured - including one who remains in a critical condition - in a spate of shocking early morning attacks.

Nottinghamshire Police said a 31-year-old man was tasered and arrested on suspicion of murder after two University of Nottingham students Barnaby Webber and Grace Kumar, both 19, were stabbed to death in Ilkeston Road at about 4am on Tuesday.

A man in his 50s was then found fatally knifed in Magdala Road before the suspect is believed to have stolen his van and driven at pedestrians in Milton Street. Three people were injured in the van attack, with one in a critical condition in hospital and two suffering minor injuries.

Nottinghamshire Police’s chief constable Kate Meynell told reporters the force was not looking for anyone else in connection with the incidents and no further arrests had been made. The police chief said the motive behind the attack was yet to be determined, but officers were keeping an "open mind" and working with counter-terror police.

During Wednesday's episode of GMB (June 14), Susanna and Richard were keeping viewers updated on the tragic incident as they spoke to Richard Gaisford who was outside a home that was raided the previous day on Ilkeston Road.

As he was coming to the end of one of his reports, Richard shared how a statement had been released by the family of Mr Webber who said "complete devastation is not enough to describe our pain" – labelling his death as a "senseless murder".

In a statement to the PA news agency, Mr Webber’s family said: "Complete devastation is not enough to describe our pain and loss at the senseless murder of our son. Barnaby Philip John Webber was a beautiful, brilliant, bright young man, with everything in life to look forward to.

"At 19 he was just at the start of his journey into adulthood and was developing into a wonderful young man. As parents we are enormously proud of everything he achieved and all the plans he had made."

Following Richard reading the statement, the cameras returned to the studio where Susanna, a mum of three, fought tears to respond. With her eyes filling up, she said directly to the camera: "Hearing those words breaks your heart, doesn't it?

"I hope that the families of those who lost their lives yesterday know that you are in our hearts and thoughts this morning and we send our love to you."
