Susan Boyle tops list of Britain's Got Talent's most iconic moments

Susan Boyle has topped the list of most iconic moments in Britain’s Got Talent history (71 per cent), whilst jaw dropping dance collective Diversity followed in second (60 per cent) and much-loved dancing duo Stavros Flatley and their surprising audition ranked third (56%).

The research was commissioned by headline sponsor of Britain’s Got Talent, McVitie’s, in anticipation of the 15 th series hitting our screens this weekend on ITV and ITV Hub. The show has become a staple of Saturday night TV as the UK’s longest running talent TV show, the Got Talent format is so successful that versions of the show have been broadcasted in 144 different territories across the world.

The study revealed the top golden moments throughout the shows’ illustrious 14 seasons on air, which has brought delight to the nation during its’ long tenure on air. First ever winner, Paul Potts, who serenaded the country with a powerful rendition of Nessun Dorma also made the top ten placing fifth (47 per cent).

It was however the Scottish soprano, Susan Boyle, that stunned the nation with a powerful rendition of ‘I Dreamed a Dream’, during the series two auditions, leaving both the judges and live audience speechless, in turn making her an overnight sensation and helping her to achieve global fame.

Other iconic moments that featured prominently, include George Sampson’s dazzling interpretation of the musical number ‘Singing in the Rain’, which he later performed again in Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions (31 per cent) and father and son dancing duo Stavros Faltley’s fun audition (56 per cent) that blew judges away.

  8. Twist and Pulse bring the energy and the power in their performance (24%)
  9. Colin Thackery’s stunning rendition of 'Wind Beneath My Wings' (15%)
  10. Illusionist Darcy Oake’s, dove audition (12%)

The show has truly engrained itself into the hearts of the nation, with a third (34%) of Brits admitting to never missing a season of BGT throughout its 14-season spell on television. A further 76% of Brits stated that they are beyond excited for the show’s return following the two-year hiatus because of the pandemic.

Other moments that topped the list include Ashleigh and top dog Pudsey dancing together to BC-52 tune The Flintstones (50 per cent) whilst Illusionist Darcy Oake left the nation spellbound making doves appear from out of thin air (12 per cent).

Golden Buzzer moments are awarded to those truly exceptional performances, which are celebrated with the rainfall of golden confetti. Of these, Jack and Tim's father and son duet stood out for 77 per cent of Brits, melting the nations hearts.Whilst 16-year-old Beau Dermott’s rendition of 'Defying Gravity' in Season 10 also left a lasting impact (72 per cent).

It’s not just the contestants that have left their mark on the Britain’s Got Talent audience, co-presenters Ant and Dec have also provided their own memorable moments such as their ‘barking mad’ fake audition back in 2019 (52 per cent) whilst David Walliams bravely volunteering to play a part in Jack Price’s motorcycle stunt audition in 2020 also stood out for Britain’s Got Talent fans (54 per cent).
