Susan Boyle won the hearts of the nation with her incredible audition on Britain's Got Talent way back in 2009.
The shy Scot stunned the audience with her powerhouse performance of I Dreamed a Dream and made it all the way through to the show's finals, where she was narrowly missed out on the top prize to dance group Diversity.
However, the performer went on to release her own album, which became the UK’s best-selling record of all time.
The singer is now said to be worth millions, however she prefers to stay out of the spotlight and leads a surprisingly humble life despite her immense success.
As she celebrates her 62nd birthday, here is how Susan stays frugal despite her stardom - and the few times she has splashed out.
Modest home
Unlike other celebrities who lead a life of luxury in mega mansions and drive around pricey sports cars, Susan has stuck to her roots and still lives in her childhood home in West Lothian, Scotland.
Following her Britain's Got Talent Success, the songstress spent £111,000 on the semi-detached ex-council house next door to her own house, with plans to turn the properties into her ‘dream home’.
Although she could easily snap-up a luxury pad, the star said she couldn't bear to part with the home she grew up in and held so many happy memories.
She previously told OK! magazine : "It’s to do with the memories of your house and your upbringing, you need to take stock of things and maybe see where you come from and where your roots lie."
"It’s best to be grounded and with your roots. It keeps you grounded and prevents you from saying things maybe you shouldn't say."
Counting the pennies
Susan is said to have over £22million over the course of her singing career, but has never been one to "flash the cash".
She previously told Piers Morgan that she gets by on a £300-500 weekly allowance.
In an interview with the journalist back in 2010, she said: "I've only just learnt how to go in a taxi. I don't flash the cash."
Asked by Piers if she would ever splash out on a Lamborghini car, she asked, innocently: "Is that a drink? No fancy cars, no."
Susan added: "I'm always careful with money. I'm not saying I'm mean, but I'm always careful. I have an allowance, it's about £300-500 a week because that's plenty for me. It's pocket money."
Humble holidays
While a whole host of celebs enjoy a the jet-setter lifestyle with expensive holidays to the Maldives or Dubai, Susan prefers to stay closer to home.
The star was recently pictured enjoying a relaxing trip to Ireland, with many fans delighted to see her on the the Emerald Isle.
She spent some time at the Knock House Hotel in Mayo in the West of Ireland, with the owners sharing pictures with Susan on their official Facebook page.
The caption read: "It was our pleasure to welcome Susan Boyle back to Knock House again recently.
"Susan is a fabulous Lady and we always love to see her return time and time again to Knock House Hotel. Pictured here with the lovely Des Dugan from the team at Senior Times LIVE."
Fans flocked to the comments section, with one sad to have missed the performer.
"OMG, this is literally down the road from me. RAGING that I missed getting a picture with Subo," they wrote.
A few little treats
Although she prefers a modest existence, Susan did treat herself to a few fun items after Britain's Got Talent.
Speaking to OK! Magazine, she said: "I bought a fur coat, a piano and a bike, which I haven’t been on yet".
Instead of frittering her cash away on lavish homes and holidays, Susan has instead has invested her money wisely in other ways - particularly in her bid to finally get on the road.
“I’ve spent a bit on driving lessons," she revealed, before admitting: "but I haven’t managed to pass yet."
