Suryakumar Yadav wins 'Fielder of the Match' medal after T20 World Cup triumph

NEW DELHI: The Indian cricket team assembled in their dressing room for the 'Fielder of the Match' medal presentation, a tradition started during the 2023 ODI World Cup, following their T20 World Cup victory in Barbados. The medal was awarded to Suryakumar Yadav by BCCI secretary Jay Shah for his exceptional fielding in the final over.

Yadav's quick thinking in the final over proved crucial. He caught a game-changing ball on the boundary to dismiss David Miller, which could have turned the match in the opponent's favor.

In a video posted by BCCI, fielding coach T Dilip praised the team's overall effort.

“We talk about rising to the occasion on big days, but tonight we did not just rise, we conquered. The intensity, camaraderie, and resilience we showed today and throughout the tournament were nothing short of extraordinary. Like a pack of wolves, as Rahul (Dravid) Bhai and Rohit (Sharma) Bhai keep saying, everybody knew their role, but together we hunted every opportunity that came our way, leaving no stone unturned,” Dilip said.

Upon receiving the medal, Yadav expressed his gratitude.

“Thank you so much, Dilip sir, for giving me this opportunity and collecting this medal from Jay (Shah) sir. Well done, everyone!,” Suryakumar said.

The ceremony was a fitting conclusion to a hard-fought victory, highlighting the team's collective effort and individual brilliance.
