Survivors Testify In Trial For Boulder Supermarket Shooting

Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, suspect in King Soopers shooting, appears in a Boulder County District Court

During the trial for the man accused of killing 10 people at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, harrowing testimonies have shed light on the terrifying events that unfolded on that fateful day.

One witness, a 79-year-old woman named Elan Shakti, recounted her experience of being inside the King Soopers store when the shooting began. Despite her fatigue and health issues, Shakti attempted to flee but fell and suffered a broken vertebrae, leaving her unable to move. She described a moment of resignation and fear as she lay on the ground, praying not to be trampled by the panicked crowd.

Another witness, Sarah Moonshadow, shared her account of trying to protect her son during the chaos. Moonshadow and her son found themselves in the midst of the shooting while at a self-checkout stand. She made a split-second decision to wait for a pause in the gunfire before fleeing with her son, narrowly avoiding being hit by the shooter.

The accused, Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, faces multiple charges, including 10 counts of first-degree murder and attempted murder of civilians and law enforcement officers. Alissa has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, with prosecutors alleging that he targeted individuals who were attempting to escape, seeking a sense of power and adrenaline.

The testimonies provided during the trial offer a glimpse into the terror and chaos that unfolded during the tragic incident at the Boulder supermarket. As the legal proceedings continue, the community grapples with the aftermath of the senseless violence that claimed the lives of 10 individuals and forever changed the survivors.
