Survivors and family members of victims of gun violence shared their powerful stories at the Democratic National Convention. One of the most moving speeches was delivered by Gabrielle Giffords, a former Democratic congresswoman who survived a shooting in 2011. Giffords spoke about her challenging journey to recovery, emphasizing her determination to regain her ability to walk and talk.

Giffords, alongside her husband, Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, expressed her support for Vice President Kamala Harris, highlighting Harris' commitment to combating gun violence. Giffords established the Giffords Law Center to monitor firearm legislation across all states.

On the other hand, Republican nominee Donald Trump has opposed gun-control measures, including downplaying restrictions on bump stocks. Harris, who now leads the federal office of gun violence prevention, has shifted her stance on certain gun policies, advocating for universal background checks instead of mandatory buy-back programs.

Abbey Clements, a survivor of the Sandy Hook school shooting, vividly described the harrowing experience of that tragic day. Kimberly Rubio, who lost her daughter in a school shooting, tearfully recalled her daughter's infectious smile.

Additional speakers included Melody McFadden, who lost family members to gun violence, and Edgar Vilchez, a witness to a school shooting. Their testimonies shed light on the lasting trauma caused by gun violence and the urgent need for preventive measures.
