
A major new survey and analysis of how news is consumed on digital media highlights the ongoing financial crisis of the news media around the world, particularly in the U.S. as “the U.S. news industry shed jobs at a precipitous rate over the last year, with total losses of nearly 2,700 positions in 2023 – the grimmest year since the pandemic – followed by a wave of high-profile layoffs in early 2024,” the researchers reported.
The “Digital News Report 2024” from the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism provides a detailed breakdown of consumer attitudes towards news consumption as well as deep dives into such topics as the use of AI in journalism for both global audiences and consumers in specific countries like the U.S.
