Surrey have secured the signing of New Zealand all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme as a replacement for the injured Kemar Roach, and have enjoyed a further boost with the arrival of Australian seamer Dan Worrall.

Both De Grandhomme and Worrall are set to make their Surrey debuts against Gloucestershire on Thursday, easing the load on an attack that has secured wins over Hampshire and Somerset in the last fortnight to take the team top of Division One.

West Indies quick Roach picked up a hamstring injury against Hampshire, ending his five-match spell with the county after just two games.

De Grandhomme, the experienced all-rounder who scored a century for Hampshire against Surrey last season, has been brought in for the next three matches, which will also provide preparation for New Zealand’s Test series against England in June.

“Following the injury to Kemar we are pleased to have secured Colin’s services for the next three four-day games,” said Alec Stewart, Surrey’s director of cricket. “He already has good experience of the county game and will add to the quality and balance of the team.”

Worrall will make his debut against Gloucestershire, his former county. He is registered as a local player this season, but saw his arrival delayed due to family reasons.

This should help Surrey refresh their bowling attack this week after three tough fixtures early in the season. No seamer in Division One has bowled more overs than Jordan Clark this season, James Taylor picked up an injury against Somerset, and Reece Topley and Jamie Overton have been vulnerable to injury in the past.

Meanwhile, England seem likely to rest centrally-contracted Sam Curran as he eases his way back into action after six months out with a stress fracture of the back. Curran bowled 10 overs and contributed 113 runs against Somerset.
