(Picture: PA)London is set to get its first artificial surfing centre — capable of generating waves two metres high.
The proposed £45 million facility, claimed to be the first of its kind in a major capital city, would be built on 100 acres of land in the Lee Valley Regional Park in Edmonton.
The plans have been unveiled by the company behind The Wave Bristol.
Nick Hounsfield, founder of The Wave, said: “This site is incredible and is in many ways a hidden oasis. We want to enhance this green space, help people access it and encourage everyone to get outside in nature.”
Chief executive of Lee Valley Regional Park Authority Shaun Dawson said: “These proposals have the potential to create a stunning new regional leisure hub bringing health, fitness, sport and outdoor activities to millions of people, along with many new jobs. We hope to bring inland surfing here to create an outstanding new leisure destination.”
The plans need to be approved by Enfield council and the Mayor of London.
