Supreme Court Junks ‘Publicity Interest Litigation’ On Taj Mahal Age

Taj Mahal (File)

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a (Publicity Interest Litigation) PIL seeking determination of the age of the Taj Mahal and removing "wrong facts" about its construction from all text books of the Mughal era monument.

A two-judge Bench headed by Justice M R Shah and also comprising Justice C T Ravikumar junked the petition filed by Surjit Singh Yadav and said it was for the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to consider these issues.

"Do not drag the courts into everything. Can we determine what is the age Taj Mahal and the historical facts behind it after 400 years?" the bench asked.

Yadav withdrew the petition. Justice Shah added: "I don't know even my age. So, how can we hear such petitions?" "Petition dismissed as withdrawn," the bench said. (UNI)
