A "superstar" Asda worker in Wigan has been praised for his heartwarming act of kindness for a pensioner who was "unsteady" during his daily shop.
Dave, the ambient section lead at the Hindley branch of Asda, was working at the store when a regular customer in his 70s came in, stopping to talk to the supermarket employee, who's worked at the store for the last decade. The man carried on with his shopping, and once he was finished, Dave noticed that he seemed a little more unsteady on his feet than usual.
The pensioner had walked to the store that day from his home three-quarters-of-a-mile away, but Dave didn't want to leave him to walk the whole way home again with his shopping, so offered to give the older man a lift home to make sure he was ok.

Speaking afterwards, Dave said: "The gentleman, who is in his 70s, comes in every day and we always have a chat. On that occasion he's walked here and, after he'd done his shopping, he seemed a bit unsteady on his feet so I drove him home. It wasn't far – just about three-quarters-of-a-mile – but he was made up. It's little things like that, that mean a lot. With all that we've gone through over the last few years, it's nice to be nice."
The 47-year-old was nominated for an Asda service superstar award by store manager Kirsty, who said: "It was such a kind and caring thing to do and the customer was so grateful for his help that day. Thanks Dave, you are a superstar." The sweet gesture was shared onto the supermarket's Facebook page, and customers were instantly impressed with Dave's kindness.
One commenter said: "So lovely reading something good for a change , it’s lovely knowing that someone cares so much about the elderly, well done Dave" whilst a second added: "That was a lovely caring thing you did for the elderly gentleman Dave it would be nice if there were more people like you who cares."
For some, the latest gesture came as no surprise, as Dave had helped them out in the past. One woman said: "Well done Dave and well deserved, such a lovely bloke who gives his time and attention to customers, I sent my daughter to Asda to pick something up for me and didn’t send her with the right amount of money. Dave saw her looking lost and confused and when she explained he gave her the money out of his own pocket so she didn’t have to come home empty handed. Even the smallest of gestures make the biggest impacts."
