Fresh turkeys have started hitting the supermarket shelves from today, but there is one retailer in particular that's determined to be cheapest this Christmas.
When Sainsbury's revealed earlier this month how it planned to sell the birds for the cheapest price of all the main supermarkets, it sparked something of a price war.
At the time its plan to sell the fresh birds for £4.25 per kg was cheaper than even Aldi or Lidl, which had both set their prices at £4.95 a kg.
Aldi however acted swiftly and reduced its proposed price to £4.19 a kg - making it the cheapest of the lot.
But the price war continued when Tesco came in with its own Clubcard reductions this weekend, lowering its turkeys to £4 a kg, as well as announcing it will be selling vegetables for 19p a pack.
Yet determined not to be outdone, Aldi has reduced its birds once again, this time to £3.99 a kg.
It means shoppers can pick up a fresh whole turkey for £7.98, while it's also reduced its turkey crowns to £8.49 a kg.
Aldi's turkeys come in three sizes - a small one weighing 2kg-4.49kg and serves 6-11, medium 4.5kg-5.99kg and serving 11-14, and large 6kg-8kg, serving 15-18.
Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi, said: "At Aldi we believe that access to tasty, high-quality food is a right – and Christmas dinner is no exception. Christmas is an expensive time for most families up and down the UK, but we’re dedicated to providing our customers with delicious, premium quality products at the lowest prices possible."
