For many people, the Easter weekend will present the perfect opportunity to get ahead on the food shop. For others, it’s a time for gathering the family for fish and chips or a lovely roast dinner.
Good Friday, which falls on April 7th this year, is a Christian holiday used to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and traditionally, people abstain from eating meat on this day and instead opt for fish. While on Easter Sunday, families celebrate the resurrection of Christ with a traditional roast lamb dinner.
So if you need to stock up on tartar sauce, lemon wedges or you run out of gravy granules, then this is when stores will be open over the Bank Holiday.
For smaller stores, such as Tesco Express of Sainsbury's Local, you may find that opening hours are totally different. These smaller stores, as well as local businesses, may also be open longer hours.
Opening times differ by location, here, we have used average operating hours for stores in Newcastle but do double-check before heading out. Times correct at time of writing but may change.
