Supergirl fails to lift off in opening weekend in latest blow to DC Studios

  • Warner Bros. and DC Studios' latest superhero film, Supergirl, significantly underperformed at the box office during its opening weekend.
  • The movie debuted with a disappointing $38 million domestically and $68 million globally , falling short of its targeted $55 million in North American ticket sales.
  • Its opening figures were even lower than those of the critically panned 2022 superhero film Morbius, which earned $39.1 million in North America.
  • Supergirl, which has a $170 million budget, also received poor reviews, scoring 56 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer.
  • The film faced strong competition from Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5, which maintained the top spot with $70 million in its second weekend.
