Seven-time Bathurst 1000 champion Craig Lowndes has been inducted into the Supercars Hall of Fame.

The 48-year-old, who has continued to race as a co-driver at Mount Panorama after retiring from full-time duties in 2018, received the honour during the Supercars' gala in Adelaide on Monday night.

One of Australian motorsport's most recognisable faces, Lowndes was always going into the Hall of Fame, it was just a matter of when.

He became the first driver in Supercars history to start 300 championship rounds when he drove at Bathurst in October with Red Bull Ampol rookie Declan Fraser.

When he is not racing in endurance events, Lowndes is part of the commentary team for Supercars events.

Former Supercars race director Tim Schenken was also inducted, with the 78-year-old retiring from his role last year.

In other end-of-season Supercars awards, three-time champion Shane van Gisbergen was named most popular driver by fans, while Lee Holdsworth claimed his first Barry Sheene Medal in his last season as a full-time driver.
