Super Mario 64's fanmade PS1 port was just one volley in the renewed '90s console war, as Spyro the Dragon fans are also taking Insomniac's legendary platformer to N64

Spyro.

A modder has managed to run PlayStation classic Spyro The Dragon on N64 hardware. Just don't expect a full version to be released any time soon.

After one modder committed the sin of putting Super Mario 64 onto the PS1, the '90s console wars are back in full force. And in retaliation for this major betrayal, the N64 faction have taken one of PlayStation's icons for their own. Or in more normal terms, days after Super Mario 64 was shown running on PS1, a separate modder has released a video showing 1998's Spyro the Dragon running on the N64.

As spotted by Time Extension, Frogbull – who has previously created bizarro projects like bringing Crash Bandicoot and Metal Gear Solid to Sega Saturn – released a video showing off the original Spyro game running on N64. The video in question only shows off the opening hub area, with Spyro roaming around the green plains, but much like Mario's work-in-progress demo, it's missing animations and other assets.

However, unlike the Mario 64 project – which came with a demo – Frogbull explains in the description of the video, "Spyro 64 is an old project I've had for quite some time, basically my first steps into N64 homebrew."

And while they aren't intending to work on this to completion, Frogbull does give a promising update: "I recently learned that a very promising and advanced decompilation project has been started by Altro50, so this homemade attempt at recreating Spyro on the Nintendo 64 doesn't have much purpose anymore as there's a good chance an actual port will end up coming."

Undertale demo is transformed in "faithful" fan-made Game Boy Color demake, and you can play it right now
