Suns’ Kevin Durant Bluntly Claps Back at Foul-Mouthed Bettors

Calling out professional athletes on social media for losing a bet is the 2023 version of blasting a player for a fantasy football defeat. Fans still let athletes know when a bad performance cost them a fantasy win or championship. But as legal sports betting expands across the country, people are lashing out when they lose actual money.

Suns star Kevin Durant has heard enough of it.

Apparently, he’s getting so much blowback from fans about losing on wagers that he felt the need to respond on social media.

“When I get paid, u don’t DM me and send a small percentage to my cashapp,” Durant posted to X (formerly Twitter). “But when them parlays don’t hit, I’m every name in the boo. Y’all ain’t real.”

This seems like a fair criticism from the superstar forward, although he’ll be fine with his $47.6 million salary, the second-highest in the league, for the 2023-24 NBA season.

If Durant busts out for 39 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists, as he did Sunday night in a 140–137 overtime win over the Jazz, he doesn’t get a percentage of whatever money bettors won from that performance. Yet if somebody loses a bet because Durant failed to score 30 points, which has happened in six of his 13 games this season, his mentions blow up.
