Sunderland fans have delivered a mixed reaction to the news a deal has been agreed 'in principle' for Tony Mowbray to become the next Black Cats boss. The former Blackburn Rovers, Celtic, and Middlesbrough boss has been considered the favourite for the post since Alex Neil's shock departure to Stoke City.
Mowbray has been out of work since leaving Ewood Park in May following five years in charge. ChronicleLive understands talks between Sunderland and the 58-year-old have progressed well, and an appointment could be confirmed before Wednesday night's clash with Rotherham United at the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats have seemingly acted swiftly to replace Neil, who guided the club back to the Championship during a hugely successful six-month stint at the helm. Sunderland have made a positive start to life back in the second tier, but have been rocked by the departure of the 41-year-old after his appointment at Stoke was confirmed on Sunday.
