Sunderland reveal plan for on-loan Manchester United forward Amad

Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray admits he might have to give Amad some rest over the New Year period as fixtures continue to come thick and fast for the Championship club.

Amad started for the ninth game running on Boxing Day as the Black Cats grabbed a dramatic last-gasp win over Blackburn Rovers with Ross Stewart and Ellis Simms on target. But while it was those two strikers who scored the two goals, much post-match attention went to Amad following another eye-catching display.

Supporters have been wowed by the Ivorian throughout his time at the club. He has now played 17 games in the Championship with five goals and an assist.

Next for Amad and Sunderland is a midweek trip to Wigan Athletic on Thursday night (7.45pm) before they finish their festive programme at Blackpool on Sunday afternoon (1pm). That comes as United get ready to resume their Premier League charge against Nottingham Forest in between on Tuesday night (8pm).

Mowbray was pressed on loanees Amad and Simms during his latest post-match press conference this afternoon. He said: "I think Everton are happy Ellis is playing football and it's like Amad and Manchester United.

"If clubs send young players on loan, they want to know they're playing football and improving. Amad didn't play a lot of football for Rangers [last season], but he's one of our main players. I'll be rotating him in and out as the games come thick and fast, but he's playing and I'm sure United are happy with that.

"It's like they're going to school really. You have to teach them about football and playing in all different games."

Amad signed for United from Atalanta in January 2021 for a fee potentially rising to €40million.
