Offering the perfect excuse to eat out, Sunderland Restaurant Week will be back this spring with a tempting mix of meal deals on offer for as little as a fiver.
The popular discount week, which will run from March 12-20, is - like its Newcastle counterpart - an opportunity for diners to branch out and try a range of restaurants both within and beyond the city which will be laying on special cut-price deals.
And this year a number of vendors at the popular STACK container village will be among those taking part for the first time.

Besides being a real treat for foodies, the week also brings a boost for the restaurants who sign up as they see it as a chance to attract new visitors and broaden their customer base.
Sunderland Restaurant Week, which is organised by Sunderland BID, first took place in 2017 and its debut saw a 40% increase in footfall and a £250,000 boost to the local economy.
This year, almost 30 restaurants and cafes are already set to take part in the event, which is supported by Station Taxis, and others are expected to be announced in coming weeks.
During its run, diners will have a pick of cuisine including pizza, pasta, tacos and burgers with offers available for £5, £10 or £15 per person.
Sharon Appleby, chief executive at Sunderland BID, hopes to see a big turnout to support local businesses.
“We are delighted to be hosting yet another Sunderland Restaurant Week and it is fantastic to see both familiar and new faces joining the event this year,” she said.
“We have a really incredible foodie scene in the city and the diversity of the cuisines on offer is a testament to this so it’s an excellent time to try somewhere new."
