Elliot Embleton was recalled to the starting line-up for Sunderland's League One play-off final clash with Wycombe at Wembley. Embleton replaced Jack Clarke in the starting XI, with on-loan Spurs winger Clarke dropping to the bench.
That was the only change made by Alex Neil to the side that began the Black Cats' play-off semi-final second leg against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough, which ended in a 1-1 draw to give Sunderland a 2-1 aggregate win. On-loan Everton striker Nathan Broadhead, who made a brief cameo appearance against the Owls as he returned from injury, was again included on the bench.
Aiden McGeady was also amongst the subs, having been absent from the squad for the second leg of the semi-final. Ex-Wycombe man Luke O'Nien lined up against his former club in the final.
