Sunderland fans hail 'breath of fresh air' performance after late 2-2 draw against Watford

Sunderland fans have called their 2-2 draw against Watford this afternoon 'stunning' as substitute winger Jewison Bennette scored late on to secure a point away at Vicarage Road.

The hosts took the lead through Aston Villa loanee Keinan Davis' strike before Sunderland defender Aji Alese's effort was deemed to have cleared the goal line to equalise for the Black Cats just before the break.

Luke O'Nien's own goal just after the hour mark put Watford back ahead but Bennette fired home from inside the penalty area to send the away fans wild as Tony Mowbray's side move up to fifth in the Championship table.

Fans took to social media to give their views of the team's performance and the result so here's what they had to say...

@safc_king : So much heart in that performance against a team whose value will be at least 4 times as much as ours. Love this team through thick and thin. Giving their absolute ALL every game. Alese is an absolute gem, and all the new lads brought so much energy off the bench. STID

@nicholaswilso11 : Huge point that, keep the points board ticking over, this team just don’t give up do they

@Safcjohnny : Brilliant point, so happy for jewison. This team doesn't give up. Ba, amad and jewison look really good.

@JimmyMackem : We were terrible for 30 mins of the second half, players did well to dig in and pull it out at the end to grab a point. The young players at this club are positive, quick, exciting. Looking forward to see them getting more minutes.

@ColdwellAnn : We are stunning to watch and all of our signings (and still Michut to come) are breathtaking. TM certainly not afraid of using his subs either. Like a breath of fresh air and a great follow up to Alex Neil. Am ecstatic and so excited for the rest of the season.

@SAFCTC : Fully deserved, could’ve easily won it. Mowbray’s tricky mackems terrorising the south this week

@CalSAFCFTM : Unreal performance from the lads again I love this club.
