Sunderland have confirmed their squad numbers ahead of the 2022-23 Championship season. The Black Cats' six new signings have been given their numbers, while several other players have switched ahead of the new capaign.
New boys Daniel Ballard and Aji Alese will wear numbers five and 42 respectively, while on-loan Everton striker Ellis Simms will wear the number nine shirt. Academy graduate goalkeeper Anthony Patterson becomes the club's new number one following Lee Burge's summer departure, while new goalkeeping addition Alex Bass will wear number 12.
Leon Dajaku joined Sunderland on a permanent basis from Union Berlin this summer after spending last season on loan with the Wearsiders, and he retains the number seven jersey. Jack Clarke also joined on a permanent basis this summer, in his case after spending the second half on loan with the Black Cats from Spurs, and he moves to number 20 after wearing 25 last term.

Patrick Roberts will wear the number 10 shirt this season, taking it over from Aiden O'Brien who left the club in January. Danny Batth will switch from number 15 to number six this season, and Dennis Cirkin will move from number 17 to number three.
