Sunderland boy bags dream job as Aldi's chief Easter egg tasting officer

A nine-year-old boy has beaten hundreds of applicants to land the job of chief Easter egg tasting officer for Aldi.

Connor Ewujowoh, from Sunderland, bagged the role after a competition was launched on Aldi’s social media channels in March, asking participants across the country to send in audition videos.

There were three winners, who all received free Aldi Easter eggs in exchange for providing feedback on the range. This year it includes creations such as the award-winning Ice Cream Egg, a Giant Dinosaur Egg, and Aldi’s famous Front Filled Eggs.

Connor's reviews will help to inform Aldi’s buying team when planning for the supermarket’s 2023 Easter egg range. To land the role, the youngster, who is a keen footballer and dodgeballer, submitted a video entry describing his passion for confectionery, calling out Aldi’s Caramel Crunch and Jive Bars as his go-to choccie treats.

Judges found the entry to be "delightful" and "charming", with Connor displaying a "clear love of chocolate and lots of confidence" in his audition.

Connor said: "Being a chocolate taster is my dream job. I’m excited to try the Popping Candy and Ice Cream eggs most of all, as they are so different to usual Easter eggs. I know I will be a great judge because I have great taste, especially in chocolate."

Connor’s mum, Claire Brown, said: "I'm still shocked that he won, and so happy for him. We shop at Aldi every week and he loves their chocolate - he truly has a huge sweet tooth and I can’t wait for him to try the Easter Egg range - he’s a very lucky boy."

Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK, said: "We are always striving to make Aldi’s Easter egg selection bigger, better and more innovative each year, but ultimately, it’s the opinion of our customers that we value most.

"That’s why we’re delighted to recruit Connor as one of our chief Easter egg tasting officers, to help share his insights on the range. We know that Easter is a joy filled time of year, and for many children this is largely due to Easter eggs. I'm sure our buying teams will find Connor’s reviews very helpful."

Connor will be joining Dawn Hill, from Basingstoke, and Hallie McIntosh, nine, from Fife, in this year’s Easter egg tasting officer line-up.
