Sunayana Fozdar: The fact that I am able to walk freely today with my head held high is freedom for me

Sunayana Fozdar, who's currently seen in the show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, talks about the importance of Independence Day in her life and how over the years she has understood the deeper meaning of the day.

August 15, 2022, marks India's 75 years of independence and the people across the country are celebrating the day with utmost fervour. Recounting the times when she was in school, Sunayana says, "When I was in school, Independence Day was more about getting dressed and having a badge of the flag on our uniforms. Early in the morning, we used to go and sing patriotic songs and hoist the national flag. But as time passed, it became more than just a holiday and we truly understood the deeper meaning of Independence day."

She believes in celebrating it every day. "I feel that we should celebrate our freedom every day instead of celebrating it on just one day," she shares.

Sunayana's maternal grandfather was a part of the Indian Army. She says, "As my nanaji was in the Army, we as a family understand the life of a soldier even more. My mother has seen how her father used to live for the country. So I have even more respect for our Army. I have even shared his picture on my social media. There have been many lives sacrificed for our freedom and we should respect that."

The air of freedom that we breathe today has come to us after a lot of a struggle and we should value it. "Being able to walk freely today with my head held high is freedom for me. There are many countries even today who don't have that freedom. But what are we doing on our part to bring out the true meaning of Independence... that is really important," she says.
