London Dungeons has launched a "Sunak Samba Amnesty" for visitors too embarrassed to wear their Adidas trainers after the Prime Minister sported a pair.
The tourist attraction, which sits across the river from Parliament, is offering two free tickets to anyone who trades in their Sambas on Saturday.
Rishi Sunak was accused of “administering the kiss of death” for the popular shoes when he wore them in an Instagram video promoting his tax policies last week.
He paired the style with suit trousers and a white shirt, prompting fashionistas to declare them well and truly “dead”.
The PM on Wednesday issued a “fulsome apology” to fans of the sneakers, but defended his choice of footwear by saying he had been wearing them for “many many years” and was a “longtime devotee”.“The first pair my brother got for me many, many years ago,” he told LBC. “Those were my first pair of fun Adidas trainers as a Christmas present.
“I haven’t looked back since.”
A London Dungeon spokesman said: “The once iconic trainers are on the outs with, well everyone, after Sunak donned a pair this week, officially administering the kiss of death to the much-loved shoe.
“We see this offer as our very own ‘fulsome apology’ to former Samba wearers. Don’t pop them in the bin, bring them to the London Dungeon and we’ll do our best to take your mind off the pain of parting with them as you step away from the horrors of the present and into those of the past.”
The offer will run for one day only on Saturday April 13, granting two free tickets per pair of Sambas turned in.
