Sugababes original members – and what happened to them as group set for UK tour

Last month, the original Sugababes returned to the stage at Glastonbury.

The reception was overwhelming for the band, with thousands of fans desperate to see them perform again for the first time in over 20 years.

It comes after the group announced a comeback tour set for the UK later this year.

The Sugababes have been through a few different alterations over the years but for many original fans there is just one line-up.

It makes the comeback even more exciting, as the last time they all performed together was in 2001 as the Sugababes.

Each of the three have been keeping busy over the years

Who were the original Sugababes?

Keisha Buchanan, 37, Mutya Buena, 37, and Siobhan Donaghy, 38, were the three original Sugababes to step out on stage at Glastonbury and they are coming back again for the UK tour.

The girls formed the group in 1998 when All Saints manager Ron Tom brought them all together.

They were just 13 years old at the time and had already worked as solo artists.

Together, they released their hit debut single overload, that later when on to win a Brit award.

However, the original three came to an end when Siobhan left the group in 2001, and was replaced by Heidi Range.

When Siobhan left the group, she initially accused Keisha of being a “bully” and said she never got on with her.

She also said she wanted to pursue a new career in fashion, though this didn’t turn out to be the case.

It was later revealed by the singer that she had been diagnosed with clinical depression.

The musician then began writing her own music in a bid to get past her depression under the alias of Shanghai Nobody, which is an anagram of her name.

She released her debut album, Revolution In Me, in 2003, her second solo album, Ghosts, was released in 2007.

Mutya Buena

Mutya remained a part of the group until 2005, when she eventually left citing personal reasons at the time.

However, she later revealed that she was suffering from postnatal depression, and she chose to leave the group to spend more time with her daughter as the Sugababes had such a hectic schedule.

She released her solo album, Real Girl, in 2007, though Mutya was later dropped from her label due to poor sales in 2009.

That year, she joined Celebrity Big Brother 6 as a housemate, but only lasted 15 days in the house.

In 2019, she finally regained the rights to Sugababes and re-joined the band who she still performs with now.

Keisha Buchanan

After the other two had left, in 2009 Keisha was the last to exit the group from the original three.

There was controversy when she left, with journalists claiming she had been “sacked” from the group.

Keisha revealed on Twitter that it had not been her decision to leave the group either.

However, in a surprise turn for fans, she and the other two original Sugababaes came together to perform under the name MKS in 2011.

For years they worked to regain control of the Sugababes name and in 2022 they finally performed together under that title at Glastonbury.
