Succession star Brian Cox reveals how he found out about the major twist in episode three

Brian Cox has spilled all on the latest instalment of Succession after fans were left gobsmacked by the explosive third episode of the final season.

A shock death rocked the Roy family in last night's show, right before Connor Roy ( Alan Ruck ) was set to tie the knot with his fiancée Willa Ferreyra (Justine Lupe).

Spoiler alert, before the ceremony could go ahead, the family received devastating news about their media mogul father Logan Roy (Brian Cox).

Viewers watched on as Logan died after collapsing in the bathroom while onboard a private jet heading to Sweden.

The character received chest compressions from a stewardess while his children said their emotional final goodbyes over the phone.

Logan's death had been hinted at earlier in the show as he suffered a stroke in the pilot episode.

Speaking about the shock death, Brian admits he was told by the show's creator Jesse Armstrong that his character wouldn't make it out of the final season alive.

"He [Jesse] called me, and he said, 'Logan’s going to die'. I thought, 'Oh, that’s fine'.

"I thought he would die in about episode seven or eight, but episode three, I thought, 'Well that’s a bit early'," Brian told the New York Times.

The actor also praised the writers of the HBO show for knowing when to kill off a character.

"The problem with a lot of television, particularly American television, is it goes past its sell-by date. And the great thing about Jesse and the writers is they wouldn't do that," the 76-year-old said.

Fans certainly didn't see Logan's death coming and flocked to Twitter to share their surprise.

"Still reeling from last night’s episode of succession wasn’t aware television could still do #that," one viewer wrote. Another said: "Bravo writers of 'Succession', episode 3 was such a shocker!"

A third fan commented: "This ep 3 is the greatest piece of television series ever made. I can't believe what I saw."

Another agreed: "Still reeling from last nights episode of #Succession The best episode of the entire series," while someone else tweeted: "Absolutely speechless after that episode of succession wow."
