Stylist explains why shirts have two buttons on the cuff - leaving people gobsmacked

Have you ever been trying clothes on in a shop, mind wandering, when you try a shirt on and wonder why on earth there are two buttons on the cuff, only to forget your philosophical thoughts the second you decide you like the outfits you've chosen? If you said yes, us too.

However, people are now realising the real reason why there are two buttons on shirt cuffs thanks to a stylist on TikTok, and people are saying their minds are blown. Joe - aka @ joe_x_style - shared the reason, ensuring that people knew it wasn't simply just a spare button on the garment.

In the video, Joe has put a white shirt on and can be seen pointing at the buttons on the cuffs as he says: "Have you ever wondered why you have two buttons and only one button hole on your shirt sleeve?

"And it's not a spare in case one falls off!

"Your dominant arm, in my case I'm right-handed, you want to do the tightest button, and on the non-dominant arm, in my case the left, you want to be doing the looser button.

"This is because you wear your watch on your less dominant arm.

"This allows for an even amount of shirt cuff to be shown on both of your arms so you're always looking smart and dapper."

People were shocked in the comments, and they were quick to explain what they used to think the reason for the two buttons is.

One wrote: "I thought they made for people with different wrist sizes lol", with another TikToker agreeing: "Lol! I’ve always thought it had everything to do with your wrist size."

Someone else said: "Always thought it was a spare."

"I was today years old when I learned this", another commented.

"Tightest never fits, thought it was just a size thing", someone added.

"I feel so dumb for not realising this, wow", one fumed.
