Of the several symptoms seen during COVID infection, a few persistent symptoms have been headache, sore throat, conjunctivitis, etc. A new study by a team of researchers at Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine Nova Southeastern University has shed more light on the impact of COVID on eye health. Their peer-reviewed study, published in the Cureus: Journal of Medical Science, identified conjunctivitis as the most common ocular symptom, with approximately one in every ten patients presenting the symptoms associated with COVID.
"Recently, there has been an increased association of COVID-19-positive patients presenting with ocular symptoms. As an increasing number of patients present with ophthalmic manifestations, recognizing these visual symptoms is of utmost importance. Some patients may present with ocular symptoms as the first indication of COVID-19 infection; quickly isolating and starting treatment can aid in stopping the spread of this novel coronavirus," the researchers have said.
