The Denver Broncos bounced back from losses to the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens with a big 38-6 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday afternoon. The Broncos also snapped a three-game losing streak against the Falcons and swept the NFC South after previously beating the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
We take a look at the studs and duds from the Broncos’ decisive victory.
Stud: QB Bo Nix
Quarterback Bo Nix was able to take advantage of a depleted Falcons secondary in the passing game. By halftime, Nix was 17-of-19 for 192 yards and two passing touchdowns. Nix finished with his first 300-yard game, going 28-of-33 for 307 yards, four passing touchdowns no turnovers with a 145.0 quarterback rating. Nix has just gotten stronger as the season has progressed.
Stud: WR Marvin Mims
Wide receiver Marvin Mims was again more involved in the Broncos’ offense. Mims caught two passes for 49 yards, returned three punts for 57 yards including a long of 37 yards and rushed three times for four yards. Mims also had his first touchdown of the season, a 12-yard reception from Nix.
Stud: Wil Lutz and FG blocking unit
Kicker Wil Lutz and the field goal unit were on the field a lot, in part because of Nix and the offense. The unit made all five extra points and a 45-yard field goal. Hopefully, the impact of last week’s block is far behind the team.
Stud: Red zone offense
The Broncos went a perfect 4-for-4 in the red zone, scoring four touchdowns — three passing and one rushing. The result was Denver’s highest offensive output of the Bo Nix era. If Denver can keep this up, the Broncos will be a force to be reckoned with down the stretch.
Stud: Defense
The Atlanta Falcons hadn’t scored less than 10 points in all of 2024, with their previous low being 10, all the way back in Week 1. The Broncos held the Falcons to 226 total yards, generating one turnover and holding the visitors to only 13 first downs. The Broncos’ defense was so dominant that Atlanta took starter Kirk Cousins out with nine minutes left in the fourth quarter.
