BHUBANESWAR: Running, giggling and talking non-stop, young children of classes I to V returned to school amidst a festive atmosphere in around 50,000 government and private schools across Odisha on Monday after a gap of two years.
Schools were decked up with balloons and ribbons to welcome children while teachers distributed candies, flowers and engaged kids in fun-filled activities to overcome the fear of school.
Attendance was encouraging in most schools on the first day of reopening but adhering to Covid protocols was a Herculean task for teachers.
"We are so happy to hear the giggles of children in the corridors of the school. Teachers used to come to school but without kids the experience was not the same," said Anusaya Mishra, headmaster of Government Project Upper Primary School, Sector-6, IRC Village.
