Two students who were present during the recent shooting incident at Apalachee High School shared their harrowing experience. Janice Martinez recounted how she initially mistook the sounds of gunfire for mere commotion in the hallways. However, as the noise grew louder, she quickly realized the severity of the situation and urged her classmates to take cover.

As panic ensued, Martinez found herself comforting fellow students who were visibly shaken by the events unfolding around them. She emphasized the importance of remaining calm and reassuring others that everything would be okay.

Meanwhile, Alexandra Romero described hearing the gunshots from a distance before the school officially went into lockdown. Along with her peers, Romero remained confined to her classroom for approximately 10 minutes until authorities arrived to evacuate them to safety.

The swift response of law enforcement ensured that the students were swiftly removed from harm's way and taken to a secure location. The bravery and quick thinking exhibited by both Martinez and Romero in the face of danger are a testament to the resilience of the Apalachee High School community during this traumatic event.
