BOSTON — A 17-year-old male student is in stable condition after a shooting Tuesday morning outside Jeremiah E. Burke High School in Boston, police said.
Police response continues at the school, located in the Grove Hall area, between Washington Street and Geneva Avenue. Police said they have recovered a firearm.
“My heart breaks as a mom, and as a resident of the city,” Mayor Michelle Wu said at the scene.
Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden said after the shooting, “We’re seeing too many guns in young people’s hands and. Right now, at the start of a school day, we’re seeing the terrible consequences. My heart is heavy for the victim and for everyone impacted.”
Just last month, a teen was stabbed at the school. The 18-year old was hospitalized after that incident on Sept. 12, the third day of school.
