Student in debt 'persuaded' to come to UK to work as cannabis factory gardener

A student from Albania was "seduced" to come to the UK to work as a gardener in a cannabis factory which contained more than 300 plants. He now faces deportation after police discovered the drugs, which had a potential yield worth £88,000.

Mustafa Cekoja, 23, was based at a large semi-detached house in Cardiff where he tended to the plants on behalf of others. At 6pm on July 6 officers from the organised crime unit raided the house in Richmond Road, Cathays, and found a commercial scale operation.

A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday heard Cekoja was at the property and escaped by climbing through an attic skylight and onto the roof of a neighbouring house. He was arrested at Senghenydd student halls and taken to Cardiff Bay police station where he refused to answer police questions. He was also found in possession of three mobile phones.
