Stuart Kettlewell swerves Motherwell job poser as interim boss insists 'it's not about me' after Hearts win

Stuart Kettlewell stopped short of throwing his name into the hat for the permanent managerial job at Motherwell - despite winning both of his games in charge of the Steelmen following Steven Hammell's sacking as boss.

With the Fir Park outfit lingering above the bottom of the table by mere goal difference prior to the Scottish Cup break, a 3-1 loss to Raith Rovers spelled the end of Hammell's six-month tenure at the club which saw him win just seven of his 28 games in charge. Kettlewell came in to steer the ship in midweek, and got off to a flying start as interim manager with a 2-1 win over St Mirren on Wednesday - marking Well's first win in 12 league games and their first home win since a 1-0 win over Livingston back in August. He bettered that with a 2-0 win over high-flying Hearts on Sunday as Robbie Neilson was put to the sword.

The result means that within just four days, he has won the same amount of games at home than Hammell did in his entire spell. But despite calls to become permanent boss, Kettlewell has played down any rumours that he will take the hot seat in Lanarkshire.

He told Sky Sports: "I genuinely believe I'm a level-headed person. I don't get carried away with the last two games, I genuinely don't. I go back to my earlier point in that it's so important that the club get the person they want, the person that they feel will be the right driver for what they need, whether it's medium or long-term.

"I'm not sitting here or pitching myself forward to say that I'm absolutely the guy. I really do believe that the connection between boardroom level and manager is important for what the club want. What the culture is, what the people are, what they want and what they want to get out of the remainder of this season.

"I'm not the person that can answer that question, I'm only the guy who can respond to a situation. Hopefully we've given a good account of ourselves as a group and myself as an interim manager."
